My Story
I am Prof. Ragupathi Raja Kannan Rengasamy, Founder and Director of VisaThera Research Private Limited, a scientist–entrepreneur working at the interface of natural products, medicinal chemistry, and computational drug discovery. My journey brings together academic research, industry-oriented innovation, and international collaborations, with one clear mission: to translate nature-inspired molecules into affordable, high-impact therapeutics.
My scientific career began with a deep curiosity about the chemistry of medicinal plants and marine organisms. Over time, this evolved into a broader focus on lead design, enzyme inhibition, and translational drug discovery, using tools such as molecular docking, pharmacophore modelling, QSAR, molecular dynamics, and multi-omics integration. I work across the full spectrum of discovery—from in silico design and virtual screening to in vitro and in vivo validation—with a particular emphasis on diseases with high unmet clinical needs.
As an academic, I lead the Laboratory of Natural Products and Medicinal Chemistry (LNPMC) at Saveetha Medical College & Hospital, Chennai, India. I have authored over 205 peer-reviewed articles in SCI(E) journals and serve on the editorial boards of several international journals in pharmacology and medicinal chemistry.
Hello
Hello, I’m Prof. Kannan RR Rengasamy, Founder & Director of VisaThera Research, advancing nature-inspired and computational therapies to deliver affordable precision medicines for human health and transforming agriculture through Science, Sustainability & Innovation.
My contributions have been recognized through distinctions such as the Claude Leon Foundation Fellowship, NRF Innovation Fellowship, and an NRF “C” Rating from the National Research Foundation, South Africa. I also serve as an Extraordinary Professor at the Centre of Excellence in Pharmaceutical Sciences, North-West University, South Africa, strengthening global collaborations in drug discovery.
VisaThera Research Private Limited is a natural extension of this trajectory. It was founded to build a specialized, focused R&D engine that unites:
- Nature-inspired scaffolds from plants and marine sources
- Rational design and computational chemistry
- Synthetic optimization and analog development
- Mechanism-based enzyme inhibition and precision targeting
- Transforming Agriculture Through Science, Sustainability & Innovation
The vision behind VisaThera is to create a robust, translational pipeline where ideas do not stop at publications, but move forward towards patents, prototypes, and potential products. We aim to develop enzyme-targeted therapeutics, hybrid pharmacophores, and innovative small molecules that are scientifically strong, clinically relevant, and economically accessible.
Beyond research and entrepreneurship, I am deeply committed to mentoring young scientists, building teams, and fostering collaborations across academia, startups, and industry. I strongly believe that India’s biodiversity, scientific talent, and innovation ecosystem can contribute significantly to the global landscape of precision medicine—especially in areas where affordable treatment options are limited.
VisaThera is, therefore, more than a company; it is a platform to connect ideas, people, and technologies to create next-generation therapeutics from natural and synthetic origins, grounded in strong science and aimed at real-world impact.
My story is still being written—through every collaboration, every student mentored, every molecule designed, and every step we take towards better, accessible healthcare solutions for all.
